Job summary
Southampton FC is seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to own and develop the club's cloud data platform at Staplewood Campus, Southampton. You will build pipelines for performance analytics, ensure data quality and governance, and support recruitment, opposition analysis and sports science.
The role involves leading the platform's technical build, database administration, and Azure DevOps workflows, with collaboration across coaches, data scientists, and staff.
Qualifications
- Experience building scalable data pipelines in Python.
- Strong SQL and data modelling skills.
- Experience with cloud data platforms, ideally Azure and Databricks.
- Understanding of data privacy, governance and quality standards.
- Able to work with teams across the club.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical build and configuration of the football data platform.
- Build and maintain data pipelines for performance analytics and reporting.
- Look after data quality, governance and data protection compliance.
- Carry out database administration, including performance tuning, indexing, backups and user access.
- Develop AI agents to monitor pipelines for quality and reliability.
- Manage code and version control in Azure DevOps.
- Work with Data Scientists and the sports science and coaching staff, and document the platform.
