Job summary

McKinsey is seeking a data engineer based in London to build foundational data infrastructure powering AI solutions. You will design scalable pipelines, manage secure data environments, and prepare data for AI-driven systems, collaborating with data scientists, ML engineers, and clients.

You will contribute to the development of next-generation AI capabilities within QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, and QuantumBlack Labs, building robust data foundations for enterprise-scale AI.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a data-focused role (internships, academic projects).
• Ability to write clean, well-documented code in Python and SQL.
• Interest in data engineering for Agentic AI, Generative AI, ML, or BI.
• Familiarity with data platforms and cloud platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Exposure to DevOps, MLOps, CI/CD principles.
• Strong time management in autonomous environments.
• Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to different stacks.
• Experience with coding agents is a plus.
• Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Build foundational data infrastructure powering AI applications and LLMs.
• Design and maintain scalable data pipelines and secure data environments.
• Prepare data for AI-driven systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Translate hypotheses into engineered features and support R&D for AI capabilities.
• Contribute to scalable, production-ready data components across AI systems.
• Collaborate with McKinsey QuantumBlack teams to accelerate AI adoption.
