Job summary

Nationwide is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Analytics team to deliver data products to auditable standards, build technical and business knowledge, collaborate effectively, and progressively take greater ownership.

With data driving decision-making, the role emphasizes data quality, security, governance and a growth mindset through new technologies and challenges. Hybrid working is supported across the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience with Databricks, dbt, Azure or similar data platforms.
• Proficient in Python and SQL for production solutions.
• Experience using GitHub with version control, code reviews, testing and CI/CD practices.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, semantic layers, metrics and data governance principles.
• Proven ability to assess new technologies through proofs-of-concept and translate findings into scalable solutions.
• Experience working in an Agile delivery environment.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience working with regulated or sensitive data.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform and deliver data across the analytics team.
• Develop, test, deploy and manage change-control processes while creating appropriate documentation.
• Investigate and resolve data issues and pipeline failures; escalate complex problems for resolution.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, product teams and business stakeholders to take ownership of well-defined engineering tasks.
• Grow knowledge of business domain and underlying data to become a data-domain SME.
