Job summary

Ocorian is seeking a Data Engineer in Belfast to design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure powering analytics, reporting and data-led decision making. You will collaborate with Power BI analysts, data scientists and business stakeholders to deliver secure, high-quality data solutions.

You will bring strong SQL and Python, experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and modern data architectures.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or proven experience in data engineering or a related role.
• Strong SQL and Python skills with solid database experience across relational and non-relational platforms.
• Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt Cloud, Azure Data Factory or Fabric Pipelines.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP; relevant cloud certifications are a plus.
• Understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modelling to design accessible data.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Fivetran or Alteryx is beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ideally with finance data.
• High attention to detail and commitment to data quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust ETL and ELT pipelines delivering high-quality data.
• Create scalable ingestion processes for structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
• Develop and maintain data warehouses and data lakes to support reporting and analytics.
• Design data models including dimensional, star and snowflake schemas.
• Deploy and manage cloud-based data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and SQL Server.
• Monitor and optimise database, platform and storage performance for scalability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists and stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
• Embed quality checks to ensure data accuracy, availability and trust.
• Implement data governance, security and access controls; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Create clear technical documentation and share knowledge for continuous improvement across the data environment.
