Job summary

London Borough of Waltham Forest is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join the Business Intelligence service at an exciting stage of its data journey.

You will help design and build data infrastructure, connecting multiple systems to create trusted, accessible data products that support services, performance and resident outcomes. The role uses Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, SQL, Python and R in a hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
• Strong experience with SQL and programming languages such as Python or R.
• Proven ability to design and develop data pipelines, models and BI solutions.
• Experience in data governance and information security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines, models and reporting solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, SQL, Python and related technologies.
• Develop trusted datasets, semantic models and reusable data products to support BI and analytics.
• Integrate data from multiple systems to provide joined‑up insight into service delivery, performance and resident outcomes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver innovative data and reporting solutions.
• Identify and resolve data quality, integrity and consistency issues across source systems.
• Support data migration, modernisation and digital transformation initiatives.
• Develop dashboards, reports and visualisations that enable evidence‑based decision making.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standards and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and information governance requirements.
• Mentor colleagues and contribute to the development of BI capabilities.
