Job summary

Optronix is seeking a Data Centre Operations Technician to manage our DCIM environment and ticket queue in a fully remote role. You will ensure asset data accuracy, track incidents to SLA, and support moves across client environments.

The position is worldwide remote, with compensation up to £45,000 plus bonus scheme and overtime. The role requires experience with DCIM platforms and ITSM tools, plus strong networking and scripting skills.

Qualifications

• ITIL foundation or equivalent service-management knowledge.
• Awareness of data centre standards (Uptime Institute Tiers, TIA-942).
• Exposure to security/compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update DCIM records — assets, capacity, power, and connectivity data.

About the role

Optronix provides data centre operations and services to clients across the UK and beyond. We're looking for a Data Centre Operations Technician to help manage our DCIM environment and ticket queue. This is a fully remote position open to candidates in any location.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update DCIM records — assets, capacity, power, and connectivity data
• Manage the incident and service request queue: triage, track, and resolve tickets to SLA
• Identify recurring issues and elevate as needed
• Support asset moves, adds, and changes across client environments
• Keep documentation accurate and current

Requirements

• Experience with a DCIM platform (e.g. Sunbird, Nlyte, Device42, or similar)
• Experience with a ticketing/ITSM system (e.g. ServiceNow, Jira, Zendesk)
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Able to work hours that overlap with UK business hours

Networking

• CCNA (or CCNP / equivalent) certification
• Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing/switching, and structured cabling
• Familiarity with fibre and copper standards (e.g. MPO/LC, Cat6/6A)

Operating systems

• Windows Server administration
• Command-line comfort and basic shell scripting (Bash / PowerShell)
• Microsoft Azure (AZ-900 or above), AWS, or GCP exposure
• VMware vSphere / ESXi, Hyper‑V, or Proxmox
• Understanding of hybrid and colocation environments

Automation & scripting

• Python or PowerShell for automation and reporting
• Familiarity with APIs for pulling/pushing DCIM and monitoring data
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible) a plus

Monitoring & tooling

• Experience with monitoring platforms (Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios, SolarWinds, Grafana)
• SNMP and out-of-band management (IPMI, iDRAC, iLO)
• Understanding of power (PDU, UPS, redundancy/N+1), cooling, and rack layout
• Hands‑on hardware experience: server/switch install, cabling, labelling
• Awareness of environmental monitoring and capacity planning

Process & standards
