Job description

Critical infrastructure depends on electrical systems that perform without interruption.

We are looking to connect with Electrical Engineers who have experience supporting data centres, mission-critical facilities or other high-availability environments for current and upcoming opportunities in Slough and the wider Thames Valley.

These opportunities may sit within operations, maintenance, engineering services, project delivery or technical facilities teams.

The work

Depending on the position, you may be responsible for maintaining the reliability, safety and performance of electrical infrastructure across an operational data centre or supporting upgrades and expansion projects.

Typical responsibilities may include:
  • Monitoring and maintaining critical electrical systems.
  • Supporting planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Managing electrical isolations and safe systems of work.
  • Responding to alarms, faults and infrastructure incidents.
  • Investigating electrical failures and identifying root causes.
  • Reviewing maintenance reports, test results and technical documentation.
  • Supporting the operation of UPS systems, generators, switchgear and power distribution equipment.
  • Coordinating specialist contractors and service providers.
  • Assisting with infrastructure upgrades, equipment replacement and capacity expansion.
  • Supporting commissioning, testing and handover activities.
  • Maintaining accurate records within maintenance-management systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with site procedures, electrical regulations and health and safety requirements.
  • Contributing to business-continuity and emergency-response procedures.
Relevant systems may include:
  • Uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Standby generators.
  • Low-voltage and high-voltage switchgear.
  • Transformers and power distribution units.
  • Automatic transfer switches.
  • Battery systems.
  • Building-management and electrical-monitoring systems.
  • Earthing, protection and control equipment.
Your experience

We are interested in speaking with Electrical Engineers from backgrounds including:

  • Data centres.
  • Critical facilities.

  • Banking or financial infrastructure.
  • Telecommunications.
  • Power generation.
  • Industrial or manufacturing facilities.
  • High-voltage electrical maintenance.
Most suitable candidates will have:
  • A recognised electrical engineering qualification or apprenticeship.
  • Experience maintaining or operating complex electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience working with planned preventive maintenance systems.
  • A good understanding of electrical safety and isolation procedures.
  • The confidence to work in a high-availability operational environment.
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
  • HV or LV Authorised Person duties.
  • Data centre operational standards.
  • UPS and generator maintenance.
  • Critical switching procedures.
  • Building-management systems.
  • Emergency response and incident management.
  • Testing, inspection or commissioning.
  • Working within shift-based engineering teams.
Location and working pattern

Opportunities will be based in Slough and may also cover nearby data centre locations across the Thames Valley.

Depending on the employer, roles may follow a standard working week, continental shift pattern or days-and-nights rotation. Some positions may also include standby or call‑out responsibilities.

Candidates based in Slough, Reading, Maidenhead, Windsor, West London or surrounding areas may be well positioned.
