Job summary

RED ENGINEERING DESIGN LIMITED is seeking a Principal Design Manager to lead and deliver high-value design projects from London, Bicester or Newcastle offices. You will oversee client relations, design risk, scheduling, and governance across complex environments, ensuring quality and profitability.

The role requires Chartered status, senior leadership experience, and the ability to travel internationally to service global projects. Hybrid working and a comprehensive benefits package are on offer.

Qualifications

• +BEng in engineering discipline and Chartered status preferred.
• +Membership MCIBSE/MIEE/IMechE or CEng/ChPP.
• +10+ years’ senior engineering experience in design management.
• +Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects.
• +Experience with design management tools, planning and cost control.
• +Excellent client relationships and communication skills.
• +Willingness to travel internationally.

Responsibilities

• Provide and maintain high quality client-facing relationships and internal management, team leadership and project delivery.
• Ensure compliance and participate in quality assurance and project performance.
• Lead and mentor project team; manage pre/post contract activities.
• Support project delivery, team performance and business development.
• Ensure project profitability and alignment with business objectives.
• Contribute to commercial and business planning processes.
• Chair project, programme and design team meetings as required.
• Manage sub-consultant contracts and design documentation updates.
• Maintain company ethics, collaboration and innovation in daily work.
