Job summary

CBRE in Birmingham is seeking an M&E DC Engineer to manage day-to-day data centre facilities, ensuring critical and non-critical PPMs are completed on schedule and reactive requests are fulfilled.

The role requires supervising contractors, adhering to CBRE H&S policies, and applying a risk-based maintenance approach within a critical environment. On-call and out-of-hours work are a regular part of the duties.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of health and safety requirements for on-site work in data centres.
  • Experience in supervising contractors on live sites and ensuring compliance.
  • Desirable knowledge of environmental and safety requirements (legionella, PASMA, IPAF, asbestos).
  • Experience in managing subcontractors and permit-to-work systems.
  • Willingness to perform out-of-hours work and on-call duties.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance with CBRE processes and procedures and client SLA adherence.
  • Deliver and schedule Critical Facility PPMs; close and complete reactive works.
  • Maintain safety standards and ensure permit-to-work is used where applicable.
  • Apply risk-based maintenance to plant and systems in data centres.
  • Ensure critical client services and networks meet required standards.
  • Provide emergency response standby and escalate urgent issues as needed.
  • Support audits and maintain required Records and Logs.

Purpose of the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day management of the Data Centre and all critical and non-critical Facility PPM’s are carried out to schedule and also ensure completion of all reactive works requests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance with all CBRE Processes and procedures. Ensure site is fulfilling the contract requirements and following client procedures without fail.
  • To deliver & ensure all Critical Facility PPMs are carried out to schedule and ensure completion of all reactive works requests ensuring closing and completion in line with SLA’s.
  • Ensure maintenance is carried out in line with CBRE H&S procedures, using the permit to work system where applicable and action improvements identified during the building and workplace inspections and reviews.
  • Able to apply a risk-focused maintenance approach and operations of plant and systems in data centres/critical environments.
  • Ensuring all critical client services, computer rooms, data networks, manufacturing and revenue earning services meet client requirements.
  • Provide emergency response standby, call out. Escalate urgent issues. Respond to work interruptions, outages, or emergencies consistent with the SLA.
  • Support critical environment related technical audits as required and directed by line manager.
  • Completion of records and logs required to demonstrate delivery of maintenance requirements.
  • Control and supervise contractors when required.
  • Raise recommendations for improvements through line manager.
  • Liaise with the CBRE QHSE specialist to ensure audit compliance as directed by line management.
  • Continually communicate high priority tasks issues to end users, client and CBRE Management team.
  • Assist and enhance service delivery through best practice and the effective use of site systems and equipment.
  • Responsibility for own technical training requirements and development program including competency assessments, critical services training, and scenario training exercises.
  • Call out & regular paid overtime.
  • Train to become a qualified Electrical Technician and completion of 18th Edition.
  • Become a CBRE Authorized Person LV and potential for HV.
  • In addition, and in support of the Contract KPI’s and SLA’s, you will be required to carry out all work-related requests in a timely manner as and when instructed to do so by your line manager in accordance with company rules and policies. This may require out of hours working and/or call out cover for which remuneration in line with established payment schemes will be authorized.
Accountabilities
  • Reporting to the Contract Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Accountability to the CBRE Functional heads, as appropriate.
  • Accountable day-to-day to the relevant client contacts.
Experience Required
  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements and ability to supervise contractors during works on site.
  • Must have experience in critical change management processes and experience working in a critical environment.
  • Desirable - Appropriate knowledge of Health and Safety and environmental requirements related to delivery of the assigned tasks, including manual handling awareness, legionella awareness, PASMA, IPAF, asbestos awareness, roof working.
  • Desirable – holder of a level 3 or equivalent, work-based and practically assessed building fabric related qualification, such as an NVQ, BTEC or apprenticeship in a building trade related subject area.
  • Experience in managing sub-contractors, running permit to work systems and being accountable for the safety of others.
  • Flexible working with the ability to manage own workloads.
  • Must have a clean driving license and be based within one hour from site.
  • Good working knowledge of Data Centers.
  • Self-motivated delivery of M&E tasks (both preventative and reactive).
  • Knowledge of emergency response / standby/ call out activities and protocols.
  • Working knowledge of F-Gas an advantage (F-Gas handling not required).
  • Be part of an on-call Rota to cover for emergencies out of working hours and be able to respond within the one hour SLA.
