Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking a Data Architect to lead the data strategy and design scalable, secure data solutions. The role is hybrid with minimum 60% of time in the office at Civic Centre, Gateshead. You will translate business needs into trusted data platforms and work across services to enable data-driven decision making.

You will shape governance, metadata and data quality, collaborate with senior leaders, and champion a data-driven culture to improve outcomes for residents.

Qualifications

• Degree in data-related field or professional analytics certifications.
• Experience delivering an organisation-wide data strategy and improving data maturity.
• Expertise in enterprise data architecture, modelling and integrated data solutions.
• Experience implementing data governance, metadata and data quality practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, Fabric, Databricks) and data integration methods.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the Council’s data strategy and architecture.
• Design secure, scalable data models for integration and insight.
• Embed data into decision-making across teams.
• Use data, analytics and AI to improve services for residents.
• Turn business needs into high-value data products and roadmap.
• Improve metadata, master data and governance for trust and access.
• Ensure GDPR-compliant, ethical data use.
• Grow data literacy and ownership across the organisation.
• Track progress and raise data maturity and value.
