Salary: £55,591 - £62,793pa, with potential for further progression to £70,907pa through our pay progression scheme.

Location: Hybrid

Contracted to our offices in Wilmslow, London, Edinburgh, Belfast, or Cardiff, with flexible home and office-based working options. Occasional office attendance may be required for collaboration or travel due to business needs.

Job Summary

This role involves defining the architecture vision for the ICO’s data use, ensuring proper data management that aligns with organizational needs. The Data Architect will support the Directors of Architecture and Data in translating organizational data requirements into strategic architecture and data strategies.

Job Description

The role includes designing data standards, models, and guardrails, and ensuring team adherence to these standards to treat data as a strategic asset. You will collaborate with stakeholders to align data initiatives with enterprise architecture, conduct industry horizon scanning, and incorporate emerging trends into organizational plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the ICO’s Data Architecture vision, strategy, and roadmaps.
• Establish data principles, policies, guardrails, and standards, overseeing their implementation.
• Design data models and metadata systems for the organization and ensure project-specific models are developed.
• Provide oversight to data engineers and modellers working on data artefacts.
• Support the management of data dictionaries.
• Create graphical and documented representations of Data Architecture for various audiences.
• Foster a community of practice and competency in data architecture across the ICO.
• Engage with stakeholders up to Director level to understand and align data needs with architectural strategies.

Essential criteria assessed at application stage

• Significant experience relevant to data architecture roles, demonstrated through qualifications or practical experience.
• Strong understanding of data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) and proficiency in database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, cloud solutions).
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and related services.
• Understanding of data security principles and compliance.
• Experience optimizing data architectures for scalability and performance.
• Familiarity with automation tools for data processing and management.

• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong presentation skills to influence decision-making.
• Experience mentoring junior data professionals.
