Job description

Data Analyst

Department: Business Services - Technology

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: Bristol

Description

At DAC Beachcroft, we're building a data-driven future that empowers our colleagues, strengthens our business, and helps our clients achieve their goals. As one of the UK's leading international legal businesses, we combine deep sector expertise with innovation, technology and insight to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients across insurance, health, real estate, financial services and the public sector.

We're looking for a commercially minded Data Analyst to join our Technology team. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping how data is used across the firm, acting as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams. Rather than focusing on routine reporting, you'll help define the right problems to solve, ensure data-driven decisions are based on trusted evidence, and influence the direction of our evolving data strategy.

At DAC Beachcroft, our vision for technology is simple: to create a place where technology works seamlessly to help our colleagues, our business and our clients reach their full potential. You'll join a collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged, stakeholder relationships matter, and data is recognised as a strategic asset.

This role offers exposure to modern analytics practices, opportunities to develop expertise in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric, and a clear progression path towards Senior Data Analyst or Lead Data Analyst roles.

As a Data Analyst, you will act as the trusted first point of contact for data demand across the business. You'll own requests from initial discovery through prioritisation and delivery handover, ensuring stakeholders are aligned on objectives, value, risks and expected outcomes. Working closely with Analytics Analysts, Analytics Engineers and Data Engineering teams, you'll translate business challenges into actionable requirements and help deliver sustainable, high-value solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for data-related requests, managing demand from discovery through governance and delivery handover.
  • Lead stakeholder discovery sessions, asking insightful questions to understand business challenges, priorities and success measures.
  • Challenge assumptions and ensure solutions are aligned to genuine business needs.
  • Use SQL and analytical techniques to investigate data quality issues, identify trends, uncover root causes and validate findings.
  • Translate business requirements into clear data definitions, business rules, acceptance criteria and recommendations.
  • Assess data quality, risks, dependencies and feasibility alongside technical delivery teams.
  • Support data governance initiatives, including business definitions, KPIs, metadata, ownership and data quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, decisions and requirements using Azure DevOps or equivalent tools.
  • Provide proactive updates, manage priorities effectively and elevate risks where required.
  • Contribute to reporting standards, knowledge sharing and adoption of modern analytics practices across the firm.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Experience delivering business or data analysis work from problem definition through to solution handover.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to identify patterns, anomalies and business insights.
  • SQL and/or Python skills for data extraction, validation and analysis.
  • Experience gathering and documenting business and data requirements.
  • Ability to engage, challenge and influence stakeholders at different levels.
  • Knowledge of data quality, governance, data ownership and delivery risks.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps or similar work management tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High levels of accuracy, judgement and attention to detail.
  • Experience within a law firm, professional services environment or another regulated sector.
  • Knowledge of legal business data such as clients, matters, billing, profitability or client reporting.
  • Experience with Power BI or other modern BI tools.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Fabric concepts and modern data platforms.
  • Exposure to data governance frameworks, metadata management or self-service analytics.
  • Relevant Microsoft, BCS, IIBA or Data Analysis certifications.
