Job summary

CYP Clinical Psychologist – ADHD Assessment Service in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced psychologist to contribute to diagnostic decisions through assessment, formulation and clinical reasoning with clear communication for children, families and referrers.

You will be part of a wider neurodevelopmental team including psychology, nursing, SALT, OT and medical colleagues, with governance structures and senior oversight of the pathway.

Qualifications

• Significant post-qualification CYP experience within neurodevelopmental, CAMHS or related setting.
• Direct experience contributing to CYP ADHD diagnostic assessments within an MDT.
• Strong formulation, clinical reasoning and report-writing skills.
• Sound safeguarding and risk understanding.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to diagnostic decisions through psychological assessment, formulation and clinical reasoning for children and families.
• Integrate developmental history, school and family information, questionnaires and records for robust conclusions.
• Engage in MDT discussions and communicate findings clearly to referrers and families.
• Work within a wider neurodevelopmental pathway alongside psychology, nursing, SALT, OT and medical colleagues.

CYP Clinical Psychologist – ADHD Assessment Service £60,000–£66,500 | West Midlands | Full-time

A good ADHD assessment should involve more than working through a checklist.

This role gives a Clinical Psychologist the space to bring formulation, developmental understanding and differential thinking into a structured CYP ADHD pathway, working alongside a wider multidisciplinary team.

You would contribute to diagnostic decisions through psychological assessment, formulation and clinical reasoning, with a clear emphasis on robust conclusions and useful communication for children, families and referrers.

The service sits within a wider neurodevelopmental team including psychology, nursing, SALT, OT and medical colleagues, with senior clinical oversight and established governance structures around the pathway.

Around 18–22 hours for assessment and feedback.
8–10 hours for report writing and formulation.
3–5 hours for MDT work, supervision, governance and audit.
Separate time for liaison and administration.

Clinically, you will integrate developmental history, functional impact, school and family information, questionnaires and previous records rather than looking at symptoms in isolation. You will also contribute to differential thinking, co‑occurring presentations and safeguarding where required.

The role also gives exposure to the wider neurodevelopmental pathway, including cases where ADHD and autism may overlap.

You will need.

• HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
