Job description

JOB TITLE: Cycling Support Officer

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Permanent

RESPONSIBLE TO: Parkride Coordinator

SALARY: £12.60 per hour

HOURS: Variable

WHERE: Main Base: Pinewood Head Office, B32 3BZ

Secondary Base: Locations across the West Midlands

The Cycling Support Worker will work alongside an experienced and established team across the West Midlands.

You will collaborate with colleagues across Midland Mencap and local community assets to develop joint activities and opportunities.

You would work with the coordinator to promote and attract new participants to Parkride and assist in planning and delivering a wide range of cycling and leisure activities based on identified needs.

What does a Cycling Support Officer do?

Midland Mencap seeks to appoint a Cycling Support Worker to turn our vision and mission into reality.

Working closely with colleagues, you will support the delivery and development of accessible and inclusive cycling opportunities for individuals and families across the West Midlands. Facilitating access to cycling can boost self-confidence, improve health and wellbeing, and help develop communication and social skills. You will understand potential barriers faced by our service users and uphold their rights.

You will support cycling development through training in safe cycling practices and provide person-centred support across the region, empowering people to become active community members.

You will ensure citizens have access to meaningful opportunities aligned with their personal goals, assist in planning and delivering Parkride sessions, and promote cycling for all abilities across diverse communities.

The ideal candidate will work well within an established team and use initiative when communicating with staff, families, and professionals.

Key Tasks:
  • Deliver and support cycling sessions as part of the Parkride programme.
  • Assist or facilitate cycling taster sessions for groups of all abilities.
  • Be familiar with the use and assembly of technical equipment, e.g., cycles.
  • Provide support and guidance to volunteers.
  • Represent the charity at events, conferences, and exhibitions as requested.
  • Update and maintain online databases.
  • Collect evidence and measure impact against service outcomes.
  • Develop positive relationships with participants to support engagement and independence.
  • Maintain accurate records as directed.
  • Perform any other tasks deemed appropriate by the organization.
