Job summary

First Step Cycle in Hull is seeking a motivated Cycle Instructor to deliver Bikeability training to children and young people, promoting safety and confidence on the road. The role involves travelling between sites and transporting bicycles and equipment safely, with a flexible casual schedule from 8am to 3pm.

No prior instructing experience is required as the training qualification will be provided (1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training).

Qualifications

• Regular and competent cyclist.
• Awareness of road and traffic environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively with learners, parents and schools.
• Decisive, disciplined, able to inspire confidence.
• First Aid and Child Protection training required or training provided.
• Basic cycle maintenance is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with delivery of National Standard Cycle training as organised by First Step Sports.
• Load equipment and drive to sessions.
• Complete course paperwork including registers and reports.
• Complete risk assessments of trainees, cycles and training area.
• Accountable for safety and welfare of colleagues and trainees.
• Ensure training aligns with health and safety policy and incident reporting procedures.
• Enable trainees to cycle safely and promote cycling as transport and activity.
• Dress professionally – in line with uniform.

Cycle Instructor

Are you passionate about cycling and eager to make a positive impact in your community? We are looking for a motivated and reliable Bikeability Instructor to join our team, delivering engaging cycle training sessions that help children and young people build confidence and essential road‑safety skills. This is a hands‑on, active role where every day brings something different, and you’ll play a key part in encouraging safe, active travel across our region. No prior instructing experience is required, as the Bikeability cycle training qualification will be provided.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be passionate about promoting safe, enjoyable cycling and able to engage learners of all abilities with a positive, supportive approach. This role requires travelling between sites, ensuring all bicycles and equipment are transported safely. Reliability, good communication skills, and a commitment to helping others develop essential life skills are key.

This is a flexible casual role and sessions are delivered from 8am - 3pm.

*Positions are available for both non‑drivers and candidates interested in the role of Cycle Instructor/Lead Van Driver to support the delivery of sessions.

Successful candidates will be provided with the cycle instructor training qualification - 1st4sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training (T & C's apply)

• Enable trainees to cycle safely, promoting cycling as a means of transport and a fun, healthy activity.
• Dress professionally – In line with the First Step Sports Uniform.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

• Regular and competent cyclist.
• Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all trainees including children, parents, and schools.
• Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence, and give encouragement.
• First Aid and Child Protection Training (Training will be provided for candidates without these qualifications - T & Cs apply - Mandatory requirement)
• Understand basic cycle maintenance (Desirable)
