The team…

You will be part of the Council’s Cyber Security Team, responsible for safeguarding our digital infrastructure and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our information systems. The team designs, implements, and manages a robust cybersecurity program to protect the Council’s information assets from evolving threats.

About the role…

We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Cyber Security Engineer/Analyst to join our team. Your primary responsibility will be safeguarding the council’s email communications by managing and enhancing the security infrastructure within our Microsoft 365 environment.

You will lead the configuration, monitoring, and continuous improvement of our email security posture, ensuring all communications are protected, compliant, and encrypted where necessary.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  1. Manage email security across the Microsoft 365 platform, focusing on Microsoft Defender for Office 365.
  2. Configure and maintain SPF, DKIM, and DMARC protocols to ensure email authenticity and prevent spoofing.
  3. Support email encryption solutions like Microsoft Purview Message Encryption and Egress Secure Email.
  4. Develop and enforce policies for data loss prevention, threat response, and safe email handling.
  5. Monitor email traffic and threat intelligence dashboards to detect and respond to suspicious activity.
  6. Collaborate with IT and security teams to align email protection strategies.
  7. Provide guidance and training on secure email practices.
  8. Maintain documentation and reports for compliance and audits.
Key Technologies You’ll Work With:
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (Safe Links, Safe Attachments, Anti-phishing, Threat Explorer, AIR, Attack Simulation)
  • Email authentication protocols: SPF, DKIM, DMARC
  • Encryption tools: Microsoft 365 Message Encryption, Egress Secure Email
What We’re Looking For:
  • Hands-on experience managing email security in Microsoft 365.
  • Understanding of email authentication and encryption standards.
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and threat protection features.
  • Experience with encryption platforms like Microsoft Purview Message Encryption and Egress.
  • Analytical mindset and quick response to threats.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative problem-solving approach.
