As a Customs Manager at Currys, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing Customs matters across our UK & Ireland operations. Reporting to the Senior Indirect Tax Manager, you will be a key part of the tax team, ensuring compliance, identifying opportunities and risks, and providing expert guidance on Customs-related issues.
This role involves working closely with internal stakeholders including supply chain, commercial, and finance teams, as well as managing relationships with external tax authorities and delivery partners.
This role would suit a proactive, detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, confident in advising stakeholders, managing external relationships, and navigating regulatory changes.

Key Role Responsibilities:
• Responsible for Customs matters across the UK&I group
• Identifying and managing Customs opportunities and risks across the group
• Providing robust Customs advice to stakeholders in the wider business (including, but not limited to, contract reviews and IT system changes)
• Reviewing Incoterms, supply chains and the valuation, classification and origin of goods
• Ensuring Customs simplifications and reliefs are utilised where appropriate
• Management of special Customs procedures operated by the business, including Inward Processing bills of discharge, and Returned Goods Relief
• Managing Customs audits and owning Customs relationships with external tax authorities
• Coordinating with and reviewing the work of external freight forwarders.
• Managing 3rd party CDS authorisations
• Responsible for Customs governance processes and their continuous improvement including the provision of regular internal training
• Implementation of appropriate measures in response to new legislation and practices (e.g. the Windsor Framework)
• Involvement in wider tax change and governance projects.
• Support with other indirect tax matters on an ad-hoc basis.
Key Skills, Qualifications & Experience
• Strong technical Customs / International Trade background
• Commercial acumen and Customs advisory experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• In-depth understanding of the Customs impact of Brexit, particularly trading in Northern Ireland
• In-house Customs experience (preferably in the retail sector) including the use of CDS
