Job Description

We are recruiting for a Customs Controller at our Market Drayton head office for a fixed term of 15 months. Your role will involve collating data, verifying information, and liaising with colleagues and third parties to ensure the timely submission of import and export customs declarations. You will manage daily operational and administrative tasks to support the Customs Team, which provides 7-day week coverage.

Please note: Weekly hours are 40, Monday to Friday, with shifts from 7am-3pm, 8am-4pm, or 9am-5pm on a rota basis, with occasional Saturdays. Hybrid working (3 days on-site) will be offered after training.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customs Compliance - Exports: Liaise with Culina, prepare export paperwork, apply for export health certificates, coordinate with customs brokers, vets, and hauliers, monitor export queries, and support sample shipments and declarations.
  2. Customs Compliance - Imports: Collate supplier information, monitor deliveries, liaise with internal teams and suppliers, provide clearance info, handle re-export paperwork, and monitor UK Global Tariff changes.
  3. Other Tasks: Verify purchase invoicing, raise requisitions, process invoices, allocate commodity codes, support new team members, and maintain documentation for audits.

Skills and Experience:

  • 1-2 years experience in a customs environment
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel
  • Ability to stay updated with tax legislation changes
  • High accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize
  • Effective communication skills and team-oriented attitude
