Import Customs Clerk

Salary: £28,000 - £29,000

Role Overview

We're looking for an Import Customs Clerk to join our Import team, providing full UK customs entry support to the Import Operations team. This role sits at the heart of the import process, ensuring all customs entries are completed accurately and compliantly so shipments move smoothly through UK border requirements.

You’ll work closely with the Import Operations team, overseas agents, and UK customers to manage customs clearance requirements from start to finish. As experience and knowledge develop, there will be opportunities to expand into wider Sea Freight and Air Freight import operations, building on the customs expertise gained within the role.

Key Responsibilities

• * Prepare and submit accurate UK import customs entries in line with current regulations
• * Provide daily customs clearance support to the Import Operations team across Road, Sea, and Air Freight shipments
• * Ensure all customs documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant ahead of clearance
• * Liaise with overseas agents, UK customers, and internal departments to resolve queries and ensure smooth clearance
• * Maintain accurate shipment and customs records in company systems
• * Communicate proactively with customers, overseas partners, and colleagues on customs status and requirements
• * Ensure ongoing compliance with company procedures and UK import customs regulations
• * Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to high levels of customer service
• * Develop broader knowledge of customs processes and import operations across Road, Sea, and Air Freight

Skills & Experience

• * Strong communication and customer service skills
• * Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail
• * Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively
• * Confident working with internal teams, customers, and overseas partners
• * Good IT skills and the ability to learn freight forwarding and customs systems
• * Previous experience in customs, freight forwarding, logistics, or administration is advantageous but not essential
• * Willingness to learn and develop within import operations across Road, Sea, and Air Freight
