Job description

I am looking to recruit a Customs Clerk for a busy and rapidly expanding Logistics/Transport Company, whose Head Office is based on the outskirts of Dartford.

This role requires proficiency in customs compliance paperwork and all associated admin tasks in the customs process, as well as liaising with customers and the business to ensure all documentation is correct for the transportation of goods across Europe, meeting deadlines and overseeing each consignment to completion.

Please note that the successful applicant will be subject to passing a basic DBS and drug test, which is company policy.

Additionally, the Director's dog occasionally visits the office.

Responsibilities:
  1. Work alongside all areas of the business including transport, bookings, customs, warehouse, and clients/customers.
  2. Provide relevant information and customs requirements to each customer based on their destination country.
  3. Manage customs procedures for Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
  4. Allocate each client to spreadsheets.
  5. Support clients with questions and updates.
  6. Liaise with customs agents after receiving and validating paperwork per country criteria.
  7. Assist customers facing difficulties in obtaining paperwork by providing suggestions.
  8. Collaborate with the EU Operations Manager to prioritize countries when trips are nearly full.
  9. Review operational costs and efficiency continually.
  10. Update clients on the status of their move once documentation is confirmed by customs.
  11. Coordinate delivery dates and times with UK/EU Operations Managers.
  12. Book shuttles and hotels for European crew members as needed.
  13. Raise purchase orders for operations-related expenses such as shuttle vehicles, customs charges, and hotels.
  14. Ensure competitive rates.

The role also involves supporting various parts of the business with:

  1. Move dates for new and existing bookings.
  2. Information gathering and data verification.
  3. Gaining customs clearance.
  4. Checking and verifying details within deadlines.
  5. Ensuring smooth transitions for all involved, prioritizing customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will be a fast learner, excellent at coordination and communication, and possess strong communication skills.
