Job summary

BT Group is seeking a Senior Network Architect for its Defence Solution Design Authority, delivering secure, resilient network designs across critical government services.

You will collaborate with customers, partners and BT teams to translate complex requirements into practical designs, lead technical discussions and guide solutions through the lifecycle, with a focus on security, performance and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience with SDH/PDH/OTN technologies.
• Knowledge of network management systems.
• Experience in secure operations centres or lab environments.
• Experience in service provider or highly secure networks.
• DWDM, SDH/PDH and Ethernet cross-connect design experience.
• Strong IP networking skills applicable to secure designs.
• Proven technical leadership to guide discussions and decisions.

About the role

Daliy office attendance is required with occasional travel needs to other locations. Must hold or be eligible to achieve SC-level Security Clearance. Join our Defence Solution Design Authority team and help create secure, resilient network solutions that support critical defence and government services. You will collaborate with customers, technology partners and teams across BT to turn complex requirements into practical solutions, providing technical leadership throughout the solution lifecycle. This is a full-time role with flexible working, based in Bristol, Hemel Hempstead or Oswestry, offering the opportunity to expand your architectural expertise and influence future network services.

What you'll be doing

• Lead the design and governance of secure, resilient network solutions, ensuring they meet customer, security and operational requirements.
• Partner with customers and colleagues across sales, security, operations and technology to translate business needs into clear technical designs and delivery plans.
• Guide solutions through their full lifecycle, from early concepts and bid support through testing, acceptance and operational handover.
• Manage technical decisions, risks, dependencies and change requests so that solutions remain compliant, commercially viable and fit for purpose.
• Improve future network capabilities by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and identifying technologies that can strengthen performance, resilience and security.

Desirable Skills / Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be useful, but you do not need to have all of them to apply:

• SDH, PDH or OTN technologies
• Network Management Systems
• Secure operations centre, testing or laboratory environments
• Service provider or highly secure network environments
• ATM or FRATM technologies
• Architecture documentation, statements of work or technology roadmaps
• DWDM solution design: The ability to design, assess or evolve DWDM-based network solutions within complex operational environments along with a range of cross connect technologies such as SDH,PDH & Ethernet.
• IP networking expertise: A strong practical understanding of IP networking and the ability to apply it when developing secure, reliable network designs.
• Technical leadership: The ability to lead technical discussions, explain complex information clearly and guide customers and delivery teams towards effective decisions.
