Job summary

Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services in the United Kingdom is seeking a General Maintenance Operative to support planned and reactive maintenance in a secure custodial environment at HMP Millsike. The role is on-site at North Yorkshire, working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday with shift rota and occasional call-outs.

You will tackle maintenance tasks across prison fabric, follow safety policies, coordinate with engineers, update documentation, and ensure compliance with permits to work.

• Previous maintenance experience in a large, complex environment.
• Basic to intermediate IT skills including Excel, Word and Outlook, with data system updates.

Responsibilities

• Complete planned and reactive maintenance and monitoring of prison fabric.
• Follow safety policies, procedures, codes of practice, NR and statutory regulations; adhere to permit to work systems.
• Liaise with engineers and subcontractors, understand site engineering services, support best practices.
• Complete work-related documentation accurately and on time; coordinate connections to existing plant/systems; use and maintain manuals and procedures.

Role Responsibilities

• The role involves completing planned and reactive maintenance and monitoring of all prison fabric within scope.
• You will conduct tasks in compliance with Company Safety Policy, Procedures, relevant Codes of Practice, NR, and Statutory Regulations, ensuring adherence to the Company's and Clients' Permit to Work Systems.
• You will liaise with engineers and subcontractors, develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of site engineering services, and support best working practices.
• You must complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time, coordinate connections to existing plant/systems, and use and maintain O&M Manuals and quality procedures.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Previous relevant experience providing general maintenance services in a large, complex environment.
• Basic to intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, with experience updating central data systems.

Continuous UK residency for the past 3 years, with limited overseas travel.

Successful completion of Enhanced DBS, 5‑year referencing, and CTC vetting.
