Job summary

The Supply Register is supporting Lewisham College in recruiting an Interim Head of Curriculum for the Elective Home Education provision. Based in London, you will oversee curriculum delivery, lead teaching teams and drive learner outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have senior leadership experience in secondary education, strong governance and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusion. Start date: 2 November 2026, subject to compliance checks.

Qualifications

• Significant leadership and management experience in a secondary school or comparable setting.
• Proven experience of curriculum leadership and improving learner outcomes.
• Experience managing, developing and supporting teaching staff.
• Strong knowledge of teaching, learning, assessment and quality assurance.
• Sound understanding of safeguarding, student welfare and inclusive education.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder-management skills.
• A proactive, learner-focused approach, with the ability to lead improvement and manage priorities.
• Desirable: experience with electively home-educated learners.
• Desirable: GCSE curriculum delivery and exam preparation knowledge.
• Desirable: SEND or additional learning needs experience.
• Desirable: relevant teaching and leadership qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Elective Home Education provision effectively.
• Oversee curriculum planning, development and delivery, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
• Lead, support and develop teaching staff, promoting continuous improvement.
• Monitor attendance, engagement, achievement and progression, implementing improvement strategies where necessary.
• Lead quality assurance activities, including lesson observations, curriculum reviews and performance monitoring.
• Ensure effective safeguarding, pastoral support, behaviour management and student welfare.
• Promote inclusive teaching and appropriate support for learners with SEND and additional learning needs.
• Work collaboratively with college leadership, parents, carers and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with relevant educational requirements, college policies and quality standards.
• Contribute to strategic planning and the ongoing development of the provision.
