UAG Cardiff is seeking an experienced Subject Lead to provide academic coordination across the centre, ensuring progression targets are met and quality assurance is embedded with the university partnership.

The role includes developing programme pathways, leading on QA and annual monitoring, teaching up to 20 hours weekly, and overseeing staff resources, safeguarding, and UKVI register compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree and postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Experience in HR duties, including recruitment processes.
  • Experience with international students and welfare issues.
  • Experience in data management and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead academic coordination to deliver student outcomes and QA improvements.

  • Attend partnership boards and report to management.

  • Oversee VLE maintenance and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Ensure UKVI compliance in attendance and registrations.

Job description

Contract Type: Full Time, Fixed Term (2 years)

Subject Leads will provide the academic coordination to deliver excellent student outcomes; quality assurance and enhancement that is commended by the QAA; and curriculum innovation which embeds strong collaborative working with both the University and the network.

Reporting to the Head of STEM, you will work closely with colleagues within and outside of the Centre and be accountable for the delivery of contractually required progression rates to the University. You will be responsible for the coordination of science provision within the centre.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • Communicate our vision to drive forward continuous improvement and enable the Centre to achieve the aspirational targets for student outcomes.
  • Communicate our vision for the development of the academic partnership with the host university, including appropriate articulation routes that maximise opportunities for recruitment to the college.
  • Communicate our vision for the development of programme pathways to meet the overall strategic aims of the Centre as an effective, attractive, and high-quality pathway to UK HE.
  • Attend and actively contribute to relevant University partnership Boards and Committees, work with university colleagues through approved liaison points and report regularly on these through the deliberative and management structures.
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and identify appropriate actions to solve problems and enhance delivery with the other Subject Leads, Heads of Subject and the Senior Management Team.
  • Provide effective and efficient academic management and co-ordination of staff resources across the academic and progression support teams in the College, working closely with the other Subject Leads, Heads of Subject, and the Senior Management Team.
  • Contribute to ensuring that the College's Quality Assurance framework is implemented across all academic teams and lead on the development of the relevant sections of the Annual Monitoring Report.
  • Contribute to analysing data and feedback from a wide variety of sources to monitor progress towards progression targets, planning and implementing remedial actions where necessary.
  • To teach up to 20 hours per week across modules within the pathway.
  • Work closely with the other Heads of Subject and academic staff to ensure that appropriate, current and relevant subject, academic skills and language development are integrated and embedded in the programme.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the Centre's virtual learning environment (VLE).
  • Contribute to ensuring that the Centre is compliant in relation to Safeguarding responsibilities and staff across the Centre are aware of their obligations/requirements.
  • Accountable for ensuring that the Centre is compliant with UKVI regulations in terms of register completions and student attendance.
  • Deputise for Senior leaders as appropriate.
ABOUT YOU
  • A Bachelor degree and post graduate qualification in a relevant subject
  • Experience of providing feedback to another person about their performance, which achieved a positive improvement.
  • Experience of HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process.
  • Ability to delegate activities set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Experience of successfully leading on internal communication, which includes disseminating complex messages or changes to operations.
  • Experience of working with international students and an understanding of welfare, well-being and cultural issues which may arise.
  • Experience of data management and interpretation, and quality assurance.
  • Experience of working across, up and down an organisation as well as with external partners and both national and international stakeholders.
