Job description

Closing date: 08 June 2025

Working within the Cultural and Community Services area, the post holder will be required to carry out a wide range of administrative tasks to support the Active Communities and Health team to deliver services and projects which include:

  • The popular young peoples' summer play scheme on parks across South Derbyshire
  • School sports delivery including Bikeability and a range of inter-school competitions
  • The annual National Forest Walking Festival
  • A programme of weekly activities as part of the Get Active in the Forest project


The role includes providing efficient and accurate administrative support for the activities of the team, tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Generating and processing invoices for payment
  • Arranging and supporting internal and external meetings, including taking accurate minutes
  • Promoting activities via social media and the production and proofreading of promotional materials
  • Keeping records of session attendances for our wide range of activities, including the creation of reports
  • Sourcing and ordering equipment to support the delivery of activities, in accordance with procurement policy


The successful applicant will be an experienced user of Microsoft Office products, will have excellent organisational skills and be able to demonstrate prior experience working in an administrative role. This varied position in a busy team will require a positive and flexible approach to work; on occasion, the post holder may be asked to work outside normal office hours to support evening or weekend events. The Service Assistant will also be the first point of contact for members of the public enquiring about our services via telephone and email and will therefore need to be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The successful applicant should have: -

  • A positive and flexible approach to work
  • An ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, outside agencies, Councillors and officers of the Council.
  • An ability to work within a team and on your own initiative


You should have a Level 2 Business Administration qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent administration experience and have experience/knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Working patterns are generally 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday, however due to the nature of role, you will also support and run events and attend meetings which may require evening and weekend working.
