CT Lead Radiographer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Radiographer to take on a key leadership role as CT Lead Radiographer within our dynamic Imaging Department.

You’ll oversee the day-to-day management of our busy CT service at Ipswich Hospital and upcoming community diagnostic centre. Working closely with the CT Manager, you’ll ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality imaging services that deliver excellent patient care and meet national and local targets.

This is a hands‑on leadership role that blends specialist clinical expertise with service management, staff development, and innovation. You’ll manage workflows, support staff, plan CT waiting lists, and drive service improvements.

We’re passionate about learning and development, so you’ll play a key part in training, mentoring and supervising new staff, students, and apprentices, as well as introducing new CT examinations and techniques. Main duties of the job
  • Manage the daily running of theCTdepartment, ensuring effective workflow and a patient‑centred approach.
  • Support the CTManager in overseeing and planning theCTwaiting list, monitoring daily activity, forward planning, and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • UndertakeCTscans to a high professional standard and ensuring good radiation governance processes are in place to support both patients and staff.
  • Ensure staff training and development, providing guidance, supervision, and mentorship to enable team members to work confidently and safely within the CTenvironment.
  • Review and maintain CTpolicies, competency frameworks, and training programmes to ensure safe, effective, and compliant service delivery in line with national and local access targets.
  • Monitor staff compliance with mandatory training, Trust policies, and professional standards, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Liaise with the CT Manager and other senior staff to plan service delivery, manage capacity, and support service development.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered radiographer (Health Care Professions Council)
  • Cannulation certificate and current experience of regular cannulation insertion.
  • Relevant CT training course and/or post graduate CT qualification
Experience
  • Significant proven experience at Band 6 radiographer level or above
  • Competent at full range of CT imaging with significant experience of CT scanning
  • Current experience of managing a complex area of work and leading a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Current experience of staff management in MDT working
  • Experience of accountability for patient flow and access targets.
  • Involvement with devising and implementing competency frameworks for staff training
  • Experience of investigating DATIX incidents and managing outcomes
Knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of Clinical & Radiation Governance relevant to imaging and managing a modality area.
  • Knowledge of current issues within healthcare and radiography.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Good, current working knowledge of CT Scanning.
  • Able to demonstrate involvement with implementing new processes, project management or introduction and managing training for implementation of new equipment in clinical working.
