Job summary

Assystem in the United Kingdom is seeking a CS&A Responsible Engineer (RE) in Warrington to join our regulated, safety‑critical projects. This role offers either staff or contract (Inside IR35) arrangements and entails technical accountability for CS&A engineering across the project lifecycle.

Working to R2A2 (ED21), you will provide technical leadership, governance and assurance, directing multi‑disciplinary teams and interfacing with regulators to ensure safety, quality and compliance

Qualifications

• Degree in CS&A or related engineering discipline.
• Extensive CS&A experience suitable for a Responsible Engineer role.
• Chartered Engineer with a recognised institution.
• Able to meet security clearance & site access requirements.

CS&A Responsible Engineer (RE)

Warrington

Staff or Contract (Inside IR35)

The RE holds full technical accountability for Civils, Structural & Architectural (CS&A) engineering within their area, ensuring all work is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle.

Working to R2A2 (ED21), you'll provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance, while retaining responsibility for key engineering decisions-even when delegated.

Key Responsibilities & Experience

• Strong CS&A background in regulated, safety-critical environments
• Proven technical accountability & decision-making experience
• Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements

• Lead multi-disciplinary teams & resolve complex technical issues

Desirable Experience

• Planning, site master planning & council engagement
• Contaminated land, utilities & ground investigations
• Seismic & heavy industrial/plant room design
• Nuclear or high-hazard environments
• Safety case development & regulatory engagement
• Full lifecycle delivery: concept commissioning
• Managing deviations, non-conformances & improvements

Requirements

• Familiar with engineering governance & gated processes
• SQEP aligned with SR0698 & ED21 standards

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in CS&A or related engineering discipline
• Extensive CS&A experience suitable for a Responsible Engineer role
• Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a recognised institution
• Able to meet security clearance & site access requirements

Desirable Qualifications

• Fellowship or senior membership of a professional institution
• Training in nuclear safety, functional safety, or systems engineering
• Postgraduate qualification in engineering or management
