Job summary

Aurora Expeditions is seeking a 3rd Engineer (watch keeper) to join the crew on the cruise vessel Douglas Mawson. You will maintain a safe engine room watch and oversee main and auxiliary engine performance, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

The role requires extensive experience on cruise vessels, valid STCW95 and CoC A-III/1, and readiness to embark in August 2025. The assignment lasts four months +/- one month with rotation per contract terms.

Qualifications

• Valid STCW95 certification.
• Valid CoC A-III/1.
• Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
• Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role, with preferable experience with Wartsila engines.
• Physically and medically fit.
• Moral integrity is required.
• Public Health, Sanitation, and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
• Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
• Alaska experience is a plus.
• It is recommended to have Public Health, Coast Guard, and Port State Control experience.

Responsibilities

• To act as the Chief Engineers representative during Engine Room watch, supervising ‘on watch’ team and ensuring that watches are carried out properly and orders followed.
• Operates and maintains Main Engine and associated Auxiliary Engines.
• Executes maintenance, operation and repairs in the Engine Room.
• Responsible to know the handling characteristics of the vessel, including stopping distance.
• Ensures seaworthiness of the vessel in the engine department.
