Job Description:

This role is responsible for specialist payroll support in the delivery of the UK and Crown Dependency payrolls. The role manages critical payroll activity to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of the monthly payroll, such as running the gross to net calculations, providing input to change projects both business and government led, and administering legislative documentation like P60 and P11D. The role provides effective management of escalations for the tier 2 payroll team, offering guidance and support until resolution.

To be successful as a Payroll Specialist, you must have experience with:

  • Extensive experience of payroll administration and support, with expertise level.
  • Decision-making that accounts for policy, legislation, operational performance, and team deliverables.
  • Proven success in driving process and procedural change initiatives from conception to implementation.

You may be assessed on key skills such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.

Purpose of the role

Manage payroll functions including calculating employee pay, withholding taxes, deductions, maintaining accurate records, and handling complex pay queries.

  • Processing payroll for various employee types, calculating taxes, contributions, and payments.
  • Maintaining employee payroll records and troubleshooting issues.
  • Providing guidance to employees on payroll matters.
  • Ensuring statutory filings and compliance with government notices.
  • Reporting and liaising with tax authorities.
  • Driving continuous improvement and ensuring timely, high-standard activities.
  • Leading and supporting a team, guiding professional development, and managing resources.

  • Developing technical expertise and acting as an advisor.
  • Collaborating with other functions and managing operational risks.
