Job summary

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Community Midwifery Team Leader to provide visible clinical and operational leadership across St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester and Worthing Hospital.

You will lead and coordinate community maternity services, ensuring safe, woman-centred care, workforce management, and continuous service improvement within a multi-site NHS setting. A fulfilling role with cross-site collaboration and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• NMC Registered Midwife
• Current UK Driving Licence
• Degree or equivalent portfolio of evidence
• Mentorship module or equivalent
• Leadership or management course/equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Provide effective clinical and operational leadership for the Community Midwifery Teams across St Richard’s Hospital and Worthing Hospital.
• Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, woman-centred maternity care within community settings.
• Lead, support and supervise community midwifery staff, promoting professional development and wellbeing.
• Manage staffing, workload allocation, and service delivery across both sites to meet operational demands.
• Monitor and improve quality, safety, patient experience, and performance against key standards and targets.
• Lead on the investigation and management of incidents, complaints, risks, and safeguarding concerns.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations to ensure seamless maternity care pathways.
• Support the implementation of national, regional, and Trust maternity initiatives, driving continuous service improvement.
• Maintain professional standards and ensure compliance with NMC requirements, Trust policies, and maternity guidance.
