Job summary

Tristram Plants seeks a Crop Protection Supervisor to oversee all crop protection activities across our sites. The role involves working with Farplants nurseries when required, coordinating with the Technical Manager and line managers to meet operational needs, and potentially out-of-hours work.

The candidate will lead a team, ensure compliance with health and safety standards, and manage records using Excel and despatch systems. PA1/PA6 certifications are required.

Work Location: Binsted Nursery (West Sussex)

Job Type: This position is salaried, permanent, full time, working a minimum of 39 hours/week

Salary Range: from £29,750.76 to £31,900.44, depending on experience and ability

Do you have a passion for plant protection and a desire to work with a motivated team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Crop Protection Supervisor to oversee all crop protection activities across our sites. Working with colleagues from Farplants nurseries as and when appropriate or required. This role may include working out of hours. Supported by the line manager and guided by departmental managers operational needs of cultural, technical or despatch. This is an exciting opportunity for a well organised leader.

What You’ll Do:

As the Crop Protection Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Crop Protection Mastery: Proactively monitor, plan and together with the Technical Manager oversee all crop protection activities across all sites.
  • Team Management: Using initiative and intelligence to get jobs done properly, showing leadership and communication skills when working with others, being able to motivate other staff when leading teams.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety standards while working closely with your team to maintain a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete routine administrative duties using email, Excel, Word, and other applications.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Proven experience in commercial plant production.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • IT: Use of Excel spreadsheets and PIVOT tables, in addition to use of other Microsoft Office programmes, using horticultural production software (e.g. Passfield), understanding of despatch systems, Grower Interface.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to own vehicle is preferable.
  • Experience and proven ability in horticulture.
  • PA1 and PA6 certification are required.
