Band 5 Staff Nurse in Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU)

We are excited to invite applications for the Band 5 Staff Nurse position to join our world-class Adult Cardiac Critical Care Unit (ACCU) at St Bartholomew’s Hospital Heart Centre. This role offers a unique opportunity to rotate across three critical care units, each caring for a diverse range of patients, including:

  • Post-operative cardiothoracic and thoracic patients

Your professional development is a priority for us, and we offer opportunities to undertake courses such as ILS, ALS, CALS, BSc, MSc, and PhD programs. We also support nurse-led research, fully backed by our Director of Research and Development.

This role involves shift patterns of long days, nights, and bank holidays to meet service requirements.

Main duties of the job
  • Assess, plan, provide, and evaluate skilled evidence-based care for critically ill patients (L2 & L3), ensuring quality care and patient safety.
  • Support and develop colleagues through mentoring and skills assessment.
  • Promote practice development within Critical Care.
  • Fulfill local/trust requirements in audit or project work.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, complying with health and safety regulations, Environmental Health Act, and mandatory training.
  • Provide skilled support to medical staff and multidisciplinary team members.

  • Registered Nurse (RN1) with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of UK
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Intravenous accreditation
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Preparation for mentorship course or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional development, e.g., acute care skills training
Experience
  • Post-qualification experience in an acute setting
  • Experience caring for level 2/3 patients in critical care or similar settings
