We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic nurse with critical care/acute care skills, as we are recruiting into an established nurse led Critical Care Outreach Service at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston.

Main duties of the job

As a Critical Care Outreach Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the Intensive care and divisional speciality teams in the early recognition of deterioration, and timely escalation of care of acutely ill adults.

You will work collaboratively with the Critical Care teams within the Trust, and the wider multidisciplinary and speciality teams. This post requires someone with excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to prioritise your workload in sometimes challenging and difficult circumstances. We would welcome applicants who can demonstrate clinical proficiency/expertise in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Recent experience in planning and delivering care for deteriorating patient either within Critical Care or in an acute clinical environment
  • Ability to direct and advise nurses and junior medical staff in assessment and clinical decision making
  • Evidence of staff development, teaching and assessing in clinical practice
  • Experience supervising/mentoring junior staff
  • Knowledge of tracheostomy and laryngectomy airway management
  • Knowledge of non-invasive ventilation in acute respiratory failure
  • Experience of working as part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven clinical skills
  • Ability to articulate clinical concepts

  • Able to demonstrate well-developed problem-solving skills to enhance clinical decision-making and expert nursing assessment in the critically ill patient
