Job summary

England and Wales Cricket Board seeks an experienced Performance Psychologist to support the England Men's International Pathway, across the England Lions and England Young Lions, fostering psychologically informed environments for development and performance.

The role requires Chartered Psychologist with HCPC registration and extensive experience in elite sport or talent development, with strong collaboration across coaches, medicine and science teams to optimise player outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Psychologist and registered with HCPC, or equivalent recognised accreditation.
  • Significant experience delivering performance psychology within elite sport and/or talent development environments.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting athletes, coaches and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Expertise in psychological assessment, profiling, formulation and intervention.
  • Experience supporting player transitions and long-term athlete development.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence senior coaches and key stakeholders.
  • Experience operating effectively in complex, high-performance environments.
  • Experience within professional cricket or international sport.
  • Understanding of adolescent and young adult development.
  • Experience working as part of integrated Science and Medicine teams.
  • Experience supporting organisational and cultural development within performance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance psychologically informed environments across England Lions and England Young Lions.
  • Support Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and multidisciplinary staff to integrate psychological principles into daily practice.
  • Embed psychological development through informed co-designed practice with the aim of improving player development, learning and performance outcomes.
  • Design and conduct psychological screening and performance profiling assessments (against a pre-determined psychological framework).
  • Deliver comprehensive psychological formulations for high-potential players.
  • Develop and maintain a robust understanding of pathway players and emerging talent.
  • Deliver evidence-based psychological interventions to targeted players of potential.
  • Deliver team-based interventions that enhance performance, communication, leadership and team functioning.
  • Facilitate workshops and psycho-educational programmes that enhance self-reliance, resilience and performance behaviours.
  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Psychologist, Performance Science and Medicine staff and external support providers.
  • Participate in case formulation discussions and wellbeing forums where appropriate.
  • Contribute to holistic support plans, including injury rehabilitation and return-to-play planning.
  • Support player transitions between County, Young Lions, Lions and England Senior environments.
  • Build strong relationships with county psychologists, coaches and support practitioners.
  • Develop and disseminate evidence-informed and best practice resources, and guidance materials to support the delivery of performance psychology provision in academies.
  • Contribute to knowledge development projects and applied research initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of current research and developments in performance psychology, neuroscience and talent development.
  • Contribute to programme planning, delivery and review cycles.
