Job description

Credit Manager – Property Development Finance

The Company:

Role Purpose:

As a Credit Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining the credit quality of new loans using the Company’s Credit Models and Policies, ensuring lenders do not take undue risks with their capital. Success in this role requires extensive knowledge and experience in development finance.

Role Responsibilities:
  1. Adhere to sanction limits according to the Company’s sanctioning matrix.
  2. Assist the Head of Credit in developing and recommending commercial loan objectives, policies, and practices, including establishing internal controls and obtaining Board approval for policies and procedures.
  3. Ensure all new credit reports comply with the Company’s policies and guidelines.
  4. Report and recommend actions to the Head of Credit on any exceptions.
  5. Advise on concentration risks and suggest mitigants for new business opportunities.
  6. Identify policy, process, and procedure gaps and recommend improvements.
  7. Stay informed about current market rates, activities, and regulatory issues, incorporating these into sanctioning decisions.
  8. Ensure daily risk controls are followed.
  9. Conduct pre-application discussions with Relationship Directors to assess appetite.
  10. Participate actively in Deal Forum and Borrower Review Forum meetings.
  11. Respond to pricing requests within agreed SLAs.
  12. Review Sighting Papers and Credit Reports, ensuring they justify approval, decline, or alternative terms.
  13. Address lender questions via the website Q&A.
  14. Collaborate with the Deal team to ensure timely loan progress to drawdown.
  15. Verify all loan agreements comply with sanctions and conditions before release.
  16. Ensure all conditions precedent are met before loan drawdown.
  17. Participate in other departmental meetings to promote credit knowledge.
  18. Maintain post-deal monitoring for development loans, including drawdowns and updates.
  19. Undertake lender votes, provide redemption figures, and loan statements.
  20. Attend client meetings as appropriate.
  21. Provide training and support to new relationship staff.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
  • Extensive experience in property development funding credit.
  • Ability to make informed decisions on new deals.
  • Commercial awareness and a broad understanding of business impacts.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • GCSE level education or equivalent.
  • Experience working in an FCA-regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of loan, security, and financial documents.
