The Role
We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Credit Controller to join a busy Finance team based in Annesley.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing an allocated portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring invoices are paid within agreed terms, resolving queries and discrepancies, and minimising overdue debt.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring payments are received within agreed credit terms.
- Proactively contact customers by telephone and email to collect outstanding debt.
- Monitor aged debt and take appropriate action to minimise overdue balances.
- Allocate customer payments accurately and promptly to the relevant accounts.
- Investigate and resolve invoice, pricing, delivery and account queries.
- Liaise with Sales, Customer Service, Finance and other internal teams to resolve issues that may prevent payment.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer account records.
- Reconcile customer accounts and identify discrepancies.
- Escalate complex or high-value debts in line with agreed processes.
- Assist with credit assessments and the ongoing review of customer credit limits where required.
- Produce and maintain regular aged debt and credit control reports.
- Support month-end activities and provide information required for financial reporting.
- Ensure all credit control activities comply with company policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve credit control processes and cash collection performance.
About You
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in credit control, accounts receivable or a similar finance role.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Confidence dealing with customers by telephone and email.
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to account management.
- The ability to prioritise a varied workload and work effectively to deadlines.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with finance/ERP systems.
- The ability to investigate issues and find practical solutions.
- A proactive approach, with the confidence to chase outstanding debt and the ability to investigate issues and find practical solutions.
- The ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
Desirable Experience
- Experience managing a high-volume customer ledger.
- Experience within a large corporate, FMCG, retail or commercial environment.
- Experience working with major retail or e-commerce customers.
- Knowledge of credit management processes and procedures.
- A relevant finance qualification or progress towards one, such as AAT, would be advantageous.
