Qualifications

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent electro-mechanical background.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills, including working without drawings.
  • Experience with three-phase electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of motors, drives, inverters, gearboxes and control systems.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical lifting equipment.
  • Proactive and methodical problem solving approach.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, servicing and repairing overhead cranes, hoists, jib cranes and runway systems.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults without detailed drawings.
  • Carrying out mechanical repairs involving hydraulics and lifting equipment components.
  • Maintaining service documentation and records.
  • Delivering a professional, customer-focused service at all times.
  • Working safely at height in industrial environments.
  • Occasionally performing welding and fabrication when required.

Crane Service Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Teesside Area | £40,000 - £48,000 + Company Vehicle + Benefits

An established engineering business specialising in cranes and lifting equipment is seeking an experienced Crane Service Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join its growing service team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled electro-mechanical engineer to work across a diverse range of industrial environments, delivering high-quality maintenance, inspection and repair services to customers throughout the region.

The Role

Working as part of an experienced engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, maintaining and repairing overhead cranes and lifting equipment. The role will involve both planned preventative maintenance and breakdown response activities, ensuring customers remain safe, compliant and operational.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Inspecting, servicing and repairing overhead cranes, hoists, jib cranes, runway systems, light cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, often without the aid of detailed electrical drawings.
  • Fault-finding on motors, drives, inverters, gearboxes, control panels and associated electrical systems.
  • Carrying out mechanical repairs involving hydraulics, pneumatics and lifting equipment components.
  • Identifying safety and compliance issues and providing practical recommendations to customers.
  • Completing service documentation and maintaining accurate records.
  • Delivering a professional and customer-focused service at all times.
  • Working safely at height and within industrial environments.
  • Undertaking occasional welding and fabrication work where required.
About the Candidate

Applications are welcomed from electrically biased engineers with experience in cranes, lifting equipment or similar heavy industrial machinery environments.

Ideal candidates will possess:
  • A time-served engineering apprenticeship or equivalent electro-mechanical background.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills, including experience working without drawings.
  • Experience with three-phase electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of motors, drives, inverters, gearboxes and control systems.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical lifting equipment.
  • A proactive and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and compliance.
  • A full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
  • Previous experience servicing overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • LEEA training or experience.
  • IPAF certification.
  • Working at Height certification.
  • Harness Training.
  • EMSS/CCNSG Safety Passport.
  • Abrasive Wheels certification.
