Job summary

Tata Steel UK is seeking a Mechanical Craft Team Member to repair and maintain overhead and jib cranes at the Corby site. You will join a two-person team, delivering mechanical breakdown support and planned maintenance across the site, with a focus on crane operations.

Applicants should have a time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship and prior heavy industrial experience; FLTs/MEWPs and crane familiarity are advantageous. The role involves height work and a 15% shift allowance.

Are you based in or around Corby?

We are supporting TATA Steel with a permanent opportunity for a Mechanical Craft Team Member to join their Corby works. Corby works are undergoing substantial investment and development to drive the organisation's mission of being a sustainable steel provider.

The successful applicant will hold a time served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship and have experience within a Heavy Industrial environment.

What you will do:

The main purpose of this job is to repair and maintain the overhead and jib cranes at the Corby site. You will be part of a two-person team, performing mechanical breakdown support, planned maintenance and inspections across the site; predominantly focussing on engineering support to the crane operations.

This position is covered by FEP terms of employment and operates on a 15 shifts (Monday – Friday) pattern of work and therefore attracts a 15% shift allowance.

What you will need:

To be successful in this role you will need to have served a practical mechanical apprenticeship to a minimum of City and Guilds level or have a proven track record of practical fitting skills.

It would be advantageous if you have previous experience with FLT’s, MEWP’s and Overhead Cranes.

You will also need:

• A good awareness of health and safety, isolation/immobilisation and good housekeeping.
• A good knowledge of general mechanical fitting, with practical experience in bearing assemblies, limits and fits.
• Good communication skills will be required for effective communication with the operations and engineering teams..
• The ability to work under pressure.
• Be self motivated and have the ability to work under their own initiative.
• May be required to provide support to other site engineering departments where required.
