Job summary

Tata Steel UK is seeking a skilled mechanical technician to repair and maintain overhead and jib cranes at the Corby site. You will work in a two-person team delivering mechanical breakdown support, planned maintenance, and inspections, predominantly for crane operations.

The role requires a practical apprenticeship (City and Guilds level) or proven fitting skills, with advantageous experience on FLTs, MEWPs, and overhead cranes, plus strong health and safety awareness.

Qualifications

• Practical mechanical apprenticeship to City and Guilds level or proven fitting skills.
• Experience with FLTs, MEWP's and overhead cranes is advantageous.
• Strong health and safety awareness and good housekeeping.
• Ability to work under pressure and communicate with operations/engineering teams.
• Willingness to support other site engineering departments.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain overhead and jib cranes at the Corby site.
• Provide mechanical breakdown support and planned maintenance.
• Inspect equipment and support crane operations.
• Work in a two-person team with a focus on crane engineering support.
• Operate on a 15 shifts (Mon–Fri) pattern with 15% shift allowance.

What you will do:

The main purpose of this job is to repair and maintain the overhead and jib cranes at the Corby site. You will be part of a two-person team, performing mechanical breakdown support, planned maintenance and inspections across the site; predominantly focussing on engineering support to the crane operations.

This position is covered by FEP terms of employment and operates on a 15 shifts (Monday – Friday) pattern of work and therefore attracts a 15% shift allowance.

What you will need:

To be successful in this role you will need to have served a practical mechanical apprenticeship to a minimum of City and Guilds level or have a proven track record of practical fitting skills.

It would be advantageous if you have previous experience with FLT’s, MEWP’s and Overhead Cranes.

You will also need:

• A good awareness of health and safety, isolation/immobilisation and good housekeeping.
• A good knowledge of general mechanical fitting, with practical experience in bearing assemblies, limits and fits.
• Good communication skills will be required for effective communication with the operations and engineering teams..
• The ability to work under pressure.
• Be self motivated and have the ability to work under their own initiative.
• May be required to provide support to other site engineering departments where required.
