Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution is looking for a Craft Attendant to join the Gloucester depot. You will be involved in repair, replacement, construction and alteration of assets, often away from the depot in a small team. The role may require out-of-hours standby and a full driving licence is desirable.

Some electrical experience is an advantage, with full training provided. The position sits in the Operations region with progression potential depending on business needs, and the role is

Qualifications

  • Role requires mobility around Gloucester area and ability to work in outdoor environment.
  • Full driving licence is desirable for this role.
  • Electrical experience is advantageous, however full training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Understand assigned tasks before commencing work.
  • Promote health, safety and quality at all times.
  • Prepare the work site and set up signs and barriers.
  • Lay cable, backfill, and erect equipment as required.
  • Provide first aid when needed per training.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, materials and vehicles in safe condition.
  • Assist team members and assess customer impact of activities.
  • Communicate with customers about work and potential disruption.
  • Raise and report accidents and incidents.

Job Introduction

An opportunity is available for a Craft Attendant based at Gloucester depot.

The successful candidate will be required to contribute with the repair, replacement, construction and alteration of assets.

Progression opportunities may be available for someone who demonstrates a desire to learn and undertake new tasks.This will be dependenton business need.

Evidence of your qualificationwill be required prior to appointment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure before commencing work you understand the task/s that you have been instructed to undertake;
  • Promote and demonstrate a culture of Health Safety & Quality at all times
  • Preparation of the work site.
  • Erect signs and barriers. Excavate, lay cable and backfill. Excavate pole and stay holes. Fix meter boards, meters and cut-outs.
  • To provide first aid where required in accordance with training.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, materials and vehicles in a safe condition.
  • Assist other team members.
  • Assess the potential impact of a specific work activity on customers.
  • Minimise the adverse impact of own activities on customers.
  • Advise customers affected of the impact of own activities.
  • Resolve customer complaints, wherever possible directly.
  • Assess site risks, and take action to remove or avoid those risks.
  • Comply with safety instructions, use protective equipment and wear protective clothing.
  • Report all accidents and incidents
The Ideal Candidate

The work involves being away from the depot in and around the area, often in a team of two people. The environment requires you to be able to react quickly, decisively and responsibly. You will also need to be flexible in your approach to assist the team in meeting its objectives. The role is suitable for someone who enjoys the demands of a physical outdoor environment.

You will need to be mobile throughout the area and you may also be required to undertake out of hours standby duties, therefore a full driving licence is desirable.

Some electrical experience would be an advantage, however full training will be given.

This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
