Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned lessons in the absence of teaching staff across a range of curriculum areas.
  • Prepare and plan lessons when cover materials are not available, ensuring content aligns with curriculum aims.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and learner engagement.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet learner needs and support differentiated delivery.
  • Mark learner work and provide constructive feedback in line with college and awarding-body expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behaviour during cover sessions.
  • Ensure a positive, respectful learning environment that promotes professional conduct and safeguarding.
  • Monitor learner attendance and punctuality, taking prompt action on absences and concerns.
  • Conduct 1:1 and group progress reviews with learners, supporting target setting and achievement.
  • Track learner progress and liaise with curriculum and support teams to address barriers.
  • Maintain communication with parents/guardians, as required.
  • Support learners’ pastoral needs, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Assist with induction, enrolment, progression events, and wider college initiatives.
  • Assist the Maths and English managers to plan and provide interventions to small groups or individual learners to support their academic progress

Job description

About The Role

We are seeking a committed and adaptable Cover Supervisor to support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across the college. The postholder will provide effective lesson delivery in the absence of lecturing staff, ensuring continuity of learning while maintaining a positive, well-managed, and productive classroom environment.

£26,068.02 (Pro Rata) £31,174 FTE

The role involves delivering some pre-planned lessons and set work, whilst also preparing and planning lessons where required, and completing marking and assessment activities in line with curriculum and quality standards.

When not engaged in teaching cover, the Cover Supervisor will undertake a range of curriculum support duties. This includes supporting learners’ attendance, engagement, and academic progress through proactive absence management, pastoral monitoring, and targeted learner support. The postholder will also contribute to safeguarding responsibilities and promote the wellbeing of all students, working closely with teaching and support teams to ensure learners are supported to succeed.

This role is on a fixed term basis until the 31st July 2027 with potential for a permanent role.

This role will work 38 weeks per year.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience of marking or assessing learner work
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality and inclusion
  • Knowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and others
Qualifications & Training
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* – C, or equivalent) in maths and English or a willingness to attain these qualifications with the support of the College
  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs, or a firm commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET). (Must be willing towards) (Desirable)
