Job summary

Colne Valley High School is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to ensure continuity of learning during teacher absences. You will supervise classes, support student engagement and uphold high expectations in a positive learning environment.

Working under the guidance of teaching staff and the Cover Officer, you will lead sessions, assist with daily cover arrangements and provide administrative support as required, contributing to the wider life of the school.

Qualifications

• Experience in supervising students and maintaining order in a classroom.
• Ability to support learning and adapt to different lessons and pupil needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organised, calm under pressure and able to work with staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Supervising whole classes during short-term teacher absences.
• Delivering pre-planned learning activities and keeping students on task.
• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
• Supporting individual students and small groups to access learning.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning during teacher absences. Working under the guidance of teaching staff and school leaders, you will supervise classes, support student engagement and maintain a positive learning environment. Key responsibilities include:

• Supervising whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers.
• Delivering pre-planned learning activities and ensuring students remain on task.
• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies and expectations.
• Supporting individual students and small groups to access learning effectively.
• Assisting with the organisation of daily cover arrangements alongside the Cover Officer.
• Providing administrative support to teaching staff where required.
• Supporting students during lessons, breaktimes, educational visits and enrichment activities. Has experience working with or supporting young people.
• Can confidently lead a classroom and maintain positive learning environments.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is organised, adaptable and able to work effectively under pressure.
• Demonstrates resilience, professionalism and a calm approach to challenges.
• Shares our commitment to high expectations and empowering every student to achieve their potential.
• Works collaboratively and contributes positively to the wider life of the school.
