The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain engaged, focused, and on task. You will play a key role in maintaining continuity of learning and promoting positive behaviour across the school.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise whole classes during teacher absences using pre-set lesson plans
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school's policies
• Ensure pupils remain engaged and complete the work provided
• Support students with their learning and respond to questions where appropriate
• Create a calm, positive, and productive learning environment
• Take attendance and report any issues to relevant staff members
• Provide feedback to teaching staff on pupil engagement and lesson outcomes
• Support students across a range of subjects and year groups

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children or young people
• Strong communication and classroom management skills
• Confident leading groups of students independently
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and adaptable
• Positive attitude and enthusiasm for supporting education
• Reliable, organised, and proactive approach

Desirable

• Experience working in a school setting
• Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Tutor, Sports Coach, or Youth Worker
• Degree-level education or current studies towards a degree
• Understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management practices
• Aspiring teacher looking to gain classroom experience
