Job summary

Pleckgate High School seeks to appoint an Art Teacher on a full-time, permanent contract from 1 January 2027. You will deliver high-quality art lessons to pupils of all abilities, plan schemes of work, and support the curriculum to meet the Academy’s objectives.

Working with the Subject Leader, you will design engaging learning opportunities, assess progress, and contribute to department CPD to ensure consistent, high‑quality teaching.

Qualifications

  • Degree level in an art subject or suitable post-degree conversion.
  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality art lessons to pupils of all ages and abilities.
  • Experience teaching art across Key Stages with good outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the art curriculum and related developments.
  • Be a well-qualified art specialist.
  • Experience designing engaging learning opportunities in art.
  • Ability to assess pupil progress and adapt learning accordingly.
  • Support for pupils who struggle with art.
  • Passion for teaching art and knowledge of art pedagogy.
  • Contributing to curriculum development to meet pupil needs and CPD in the department.

Responsibilities

  • To assist in developing syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, and teaching strategies in art.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Assist the Subject Leader to ensure the curriculum supports Academy objectives.
  • Participate in staff development and professional development.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluating the art area against quality standards.
  • Review and manage curriculum-related activities and pastoral functions.
  • Maintain records and provide up-to-date information for MIS and registers.
  • Communicate effectively with parents where appropriate.

The Job:

Pleckgate High School seek to appoint an Art Teacher on a full time and permanent contract from 1st January 2027.

What does this job do?
  1. To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the subject area.
  2. To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  3. To assist the Subject Leader to ensure that the curriculum area provides a range of teaching which complements the Academy’s Strategic Objectives.
  4. To take part in the Academy’s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development.
  5. To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the subject area in line with agreed Academy procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
  6. To take part, as may be required, in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the Academy.
  7. To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information for Management Information Systems (MIS), registers etc.
  8. To communicate effectively with the parents of pupils as appropriate.
What are the job requirements?
  1. Qualified to degree level in an art-based subject or adequate post degree conversion course.
  2. Qualified teacher status.
  3. Ability to deliver high-quality lessons in art to pupils of all ages and abilities.
  4. Experience of teaching art throughout the Key Stages and securing good outcomes.
  5. Knowledge of requirements of the art curriculum and developments and initiatives relating to the subject and its implications for pupils.
  6. Be a well-qualified art specialist.
  7. Have experience of designing engaging learning opportunities which promote excellent knowledge and understanding of art.
  8. Have an excellent understanding of how to assess pupils progress and make adaptations to the learning experience to allow all pupils to be successful.
  9. Be able to demonstrate support offered to pupils that struggle with aspects of art.
  10. Be passionate about the teaching of art and knowledgeable of art pedagogy.
  11. Contribute to the continuous development of the curriculum that is responsive to the needs of pupils in our school.
  12. Contribute to departmental CPD in order that all pupils receive a consistent, high-quality teaching experience in the department.
