Job summary

Serco is seeking a Prisoner Custody Officer at Peterborough Magistrates Court. You will join a team delivering safe escorting and custody services with a comprehensive 5½‑week paid training course and ongoing support.

Shifts run 24/6, with 12‑week rotas; some flexibility and possible part‑time across full days. Candidates should have a full UK driving licence (desirable), good fitness, strong communication skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure while upholding confidentiality and

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence (B/B1) is desirable.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to stay calm and make decisions under pressure.
• Confidence managing behaviour and de-escalating conflict.
• Teamwork and ability to follow processes accurately.
• Professionalism, integrity and respect for confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Escort detainees within the court and to facilities.
• Supervise detainees during hearings to maintain safety and security.
• Manage sensitive situations with strict confidentiality.
• Support detainee welfare including access to food, drink and wellbeing checks.
• Monitor behaviour and respond to incidents or risks.
• Conduct searches to maintain a secure environment.
• Complete accurate records and documentation.
• Work closely with court staff and partners to ensure smooth operations.
