Service Care Legal is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join our team as a Court of Protection Paralegal. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about providing high-quality legal services in Court of Protection matters.

Job Title

Court of Protection Paralegal

Location

Lewisham, London

Salary

£25,000 to £30,000 per annum (DOE and interview performance)

Key Responsibilities:

• Delivering high-quality legal services on all COP matters.
• Assisting in the development and marketing of the COP department.
• Providing guidance and supervision to other COP caseworkers, ensuring case compliance with LAA and practice standards.
• Approving COP files for billing and ensuring compliance during audits and peer reviews.
• Maintaining effective communication with clients, external organisations, and colleagues.
• Providing training to caseworkers on legal procedures and practice changes.
• Managing a varied caseload and delivering work to professional standards.

Specific Duties:

• Reviewing legal developments and updating the team on judgments, policies, and legislation.
• Managing chargeable time and billing in line with firm standards.
• Assisting with the preparation of training materials and delivering in-house sessions.
• Liaising with clients, experts, public bodies, and legal professionals.
• Supporting marketing and promotional efforts of the firm.

Skills:

• Strong analytical and communication skills, including report writing.
• Proficient in IT, especially Microsoft Office.
• Effective caseload management.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Understanding of the legal process and working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience working in a team and managing responsibilities.

Knowledge:

• Mental Health Law and Court of Protection.
• Knowledge of confidentiality and equal opportunities provisions.

Experience:

• Experience in Mental Health Law and Court of Protection casework.
• Legal aid and private work related to COP.
• Supervisory experience working with caseworkers.

Education:

• Degree-level education.
• Completion of the LPC (Legal Practice Course).
