Job summary

Bob and Berts in Dunfermline is seeking a friendly Counter Assistant/ Kitchen Porter to greet customers, take orders, process payments, and maintain a clean, stocked counter area. You’ll support a fast-paced team and help ensure a positive customer experience.

This part-time role covers 20–30 hours with weekend/early-morning shifts; shifts finish by 6:30pm. Prior retail/food service is helpful but not essential; right to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and active listening skills.
• Friendly, polite, and professional demeanour.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
• Basic numeracy skills for cash handling and POS usage.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends.
• Previous experience in retail or food service is preferred but not essential.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, take food/drink orders accurately, and handle inquiries or complaints with a positive attitude.
• Prepare or serve food/drinks and package takeaways quickly to maximize sales and service flow.
• Operate the till/POS system, handling cash, credit cards, and providing accurate change and receipts.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness at the counter, serving areas, and tables.
• Replenish stock, restock self-serve stations, and follow food rotation practices.
• Collaborate with kitchen and front of house staff to ensure smooth service, particularly during busy periods.
