Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Cost Engineer to support major projects through development of cost control structures and accurate reporting on performance against baselines. The role emphasizes EV metrics, budget alignment, and forecasting to support decision making.

Candidates with a relevant graduate background and CIMA qualification are welcome, with experience spanning the full project lifecycle and familiarity with Prism, Ecosys, SAP, and Oracle systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop cost control data structures to track actual costs accurately.

  • Track actual costs against cost controls structures.
  • Monitor accruals and commitments against budgets.
  • Build project forecast including ETC and EAC.
  • Report project information including Earned Value Management promptly.
  • Track contingency and exposure from risks and remaining risks.
  • Track change control to align with baselines and data structures.
  • Identify key project trends to inform future change controls.

Job Description

Cost Engineers support major projects and organisations in the delivery of accurate and timely project information relating to performance against the project baselines. The cost engineer would drive the cost performance reporting for the project including all Earned Value Management metrics associated with key project commitments and expenditures.

Responsibilities
  • Development of project cost control data structures to accurately track and control actual costs
  • Establishing and setting the project control budget aligned with agreed baselines
  • Tracking of actual costs for internal and external expenditure against the cost controls structures
  • Tracking and control of project accruals and commitments against set budget constraints
  • Building project forecast to include estimated work to complete (ETC) and developing the estimate at completion (EAC)
  • Accurate and timely reporting of all project information including Earned Value Management
  • Tracking of project contingency and exposure associated with risk events and remaining risks on the project
  • Tracking of project change control to ensure alignment with agreed baselines and control data structures
  • Tracking of key project trends which can inform future change controls
Qualifications

Typically, a qualified graduate in a relevant discipline with proven working experience in the delivery of project controls services for major projects or programmes. Additionally, we would welcome applicants who are CIMA qualified.

Experience

Delivered cost engineering across a range of major projects, preferably across multiple sectors. Worked across the full project lifecycle including for pre‑investment decision, design development, execution, and commissioning phases.

Experience in working to cost engineering procedures and processes, and the ability to define project cost procedures and standards to which the project and/or programme will adhere to.

Highly conversant with cost management systems such as Prism and Ecosys, including for the interface with corporate finance systems such as SAP and Oracle. Appreciation of business rules and how project funding and performance aligns with business financial account requirements within the project or programme environment.
