Job summary

Mactech Energy Group seeks a Cost Engineer to join the Integrated Project Controls team for the HPC project in the UK. You will implement cost and forecasting processes, generate timely reports, and provide analytical insights to support decision-making.

You will work within a matrix organisation delivering governance, data integrity and effective cost control across CBS/WBS structures and interfaces with multiple project teams.

  • Maintain cost and forecast data in EcoSys and SAP.
  • Coordinate and produce cost and forecast reports to defined cycles, with commentary on drivers.
  • Assist in Trend & Change processes with project-level analysis.
  • Deliver clear insights to support robust decision-making.
  • Provide analytical support to Senior Cost Engineers for prioritisation and actions.
  • Collaborate across organisational boundaries to align with HPC project values.
  • Ensure project documents, including Sensitive Nuclear Information, are properly protected.

Job description

Working as key aspect of an Integrated Project Controls (Cost and Forecasting) team, our team aims to act as a centre of excellence for project controls implementation. We are the intelligent owners of the single source of delivery performance information, operating as an integrated enabler for the successful delivery of the HPC project.

We work as part of a matrix organisation supporting one of the following programmes/areas within the project: Central, Site, Engineering, MEH, Nuclear Island (NI), Conventional Island and Balance of Plant, Instrumentation and Controls, and Commissioning.

The role of Cost Engineer is to work within the Cost and Forecasting team across the HPC project following the Cost and Forecasting strategy uniformly across the project. They will work with other members of the Cost and Forecasting team supporting the implementation of Cost and Forecasting specific processes and framework. They will follow all governance arrangements for the Cost and Forecasting team providing effective reporting of Cost and Forecasting information in a timely and accurate manner.

Principal Accountabilities

Team:

  • Produce and maintain accurate cost and forecast data in alignment with the Cost Breakdown Structure or Work Breakdown Structure (CBS/WBS);
  • Accurately maintain all Cost and Forecast data for their area of responsibility within the Cost and Forecast software system e.g. EcoSys, SAP
  • Co-ordinate and produce Cost and Forecasting reports to a defined reporting cycle, including commentary on key time-related drivers and performance issues
  • Assist in the Trend & Change process, including analysis at Project level, generating performance indicators and providing feedback on areas of risk and opportunities.
  • Delivers clear and concise insights to support robust decision-making utilising commercial and technical information to influence decisions.
  • Analytical support for Senior Cost Engineers through robust analysis and interpretation of technical, financial, and performance data to facilitate prioritisation and any necessary actions.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues within and across organisational boundaries to achieve mutually successful outcomes in keeping with the HPC project values of "Humility, Positivity, Respect, Solidarity and Clarity" and culture of "Trust, Transparency and Teamwork"
  • Applying fundamental project and business project controls principles and interfaces with wider management processes.
  • Help promote and embed a culture of good governance, risk awareness and compliance across the organisation.
  • Support the education of project controls reporting functionality and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure all Project documents, in particular Sensitive Nuclear Information, are correctly protectively marked, and protected in accordance with policies and procedures

Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of HND or equivalent qualification in project management, project controls, engineering, or another related field
  • Experience in a Project Management environment
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a project controls discipline.
  • Experience of working on a major construction project is desirable but not necessary
  • Experience of working in the Nuclear Industry is desirable but not necessary
