Job summary

Milton Keynes City Council is recruiting a Registration Officer Citizenship and Systems to join the Registration Service team in Milton Keynes. You will deliver registration services, citizenship ceremonies and related customer services across the council.

The role combines registration knowledge, customer service, systems management and service development to support residents efficiently and compliantly.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering clear and engaging guidance and training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist support and guidance on registration services, ceremonies and citizenship enquiries.
  • Lead on the management, development and continuous improvement of registration booking systems, websites and self-service tools.
  • Coordinate and deliver citizenship ceremonies and appointments while ensuring Home Office compliance.
  • Manage income processes, financial records, reporting requirements and audit records for the service.
  • Act as the first point of contact for registration systems, testing and improvements.
  • Supervise Ceremony Officers and support recruitment activities.

Job Introduction

We’re recruiting a Registration Officer Citizenship and Systems to join our Registration Service team.

Our Registration Service supports residents through some of life’s most important moments, delivering registration services, citizenship ceremonies, appointments and related customer services across Milton Keynes.

This rewarding role combines specialist registration knowledge, customer service, systems management and service development.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring citizenship ceremonies are delivered to Home Office requirements, supporting colleagues with specialist enquiries, managing key registration systems and helping residents access services quickly and efficiently.

You’ll also take the lead on important booking, income and customer systems that support the day-to-day operation of the service.

Site-Based role

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

  • Providing specialist support and guidance on registration services, ceremonies and citizenship enquiries.
  • Leading on the management, development and continuous improvement of registration booking systems, websites and customer self-service tools.

  • Managing income processes, financial records, reporting requirements and audit records for the service.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for registration systems, testing, user acceptance testing and technical improvements.
  • Supervising Ceremony Officers, supporting recruitment activity and carrying out regular one-to-one meetings.
Ideal Candidate
  • You'll hold an IT qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent practical IT skills, including experience of using databases and specialist systems.
  • Comfortable explaining complex information, you can communicate clearly with colleagues, partners and members of the public.
  • Bringing knowledge of registration and citizenship legislation and practice, you can apply regulations confidently and accurately.
  • Experienced in presenting information to different audiences, you can deliver clear and engaging guidance and training sessions.
  • A proactive and organised approach enables you to prioritise changing workloads, use your initiative and support the work of others.
  • Skilled in handling financial transactions and processes, you have experience of managing card, cash or banking procedures accurately.

Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks

If you’re offered the role, you’ll be subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks as part of our pre‑employment process.

Basic DBS Check and Employment History

These checks include a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and verification of your employment history for the past three years, including confirmation through employment references for this time period.
